Idioms are phrases which cannot be understood simply by looking at the meaning of the individual words in the phrase.
Idiom:
fire away at (someone or something)
Meaning:
to shoot at someone or something, to ask many questions
Example:
The students began to fire away at the speaker after he finished his speech.
