Idioms are phrases which cannot be understood simply by looking at the meaning of the individual words in the phrase.
Idiom:
hand (something) to (someone) on a silver platter
Meaning:
to give a person something that has not been earned
Example:
The father handed a job to his son on a silver platter and the boy never made any effort at all.
