Idioms are phrases which cannot be understood simply by looking at the meaning of the individual words in the phrase.


Idiom:
live (something) down or live down (something)

Meaning:
to overcome the shame or embarrassment of something

Example:
It was difficult for the woman to live down the shame of stealing money from her job.
