An idiom is a widely used saying or expression containing a figurative meaning that differs from the phrase's literal meaning.


Idiom:

Meaning:
to ignore the past and start over again

Example:
The young man broke the law several times but he was able to start over with a clean slate when the judge decided that he would probably not do anything bad in the future.
