Idioms are phrases which cannot be understood simply by looking at the meaning of the individual words in the phrase.
Idiom:
turn (something) to good account
Meaning:
to make good use of a situation or experience
Example:
We were able to turn our experience with the income tax office to good account when we began to look at our business practices.
