Phrasal Verb


Phrasal verbs are two or more words that together act as a completely new verb with a meaning separate from those of the original words.


Phrasal Verb:
bring something on

Meaning / Example:

1. to cause something to happen; to cause a situation to occur.
> What brought this event on?
> What brought on this catastrophe?

2. to cause a case or an attack of a disease.
> What brought on your coughing fit?

Phrasal verbs consists of a basic verb + another word or words. The two or three words that make up a phrasal verb form a short 'phrase' - which is why we call them 'phrasal verbs'.
