Phrasal verbs, also called two-word verbs, are idiomatic expressions wherein the second element of the verb (the adverb or particle) is not necessarily predictable.


Phrasal Verb:
pick someone or something off Fig.

Meaning:
to kill someone or something with a carefully aimed gunshot.

Example:
The hunter picked the deer off with great skill.
