Phrasal verbs are compound verbs that result from combining a verb with an adverb or a preposition. The resulting compound verb is idiomatic.


Phrasal Verb:
prune something away

Meaning:
to cut away something unwanted or unneeded.

Example:
Please prune the lower branches of the trees away. They are starting to annoy pedestrians.
