Phrasal verbs are compound verbs that result from combining a verb with an adverb or a preposition. The resulting compound verb is idiomatic.


Phrasal Verb:
ring something up

Meaning:
to record the cost of an item on a cash register.

Example:
Please ring this chewing gum up first, and I'll put it in my purse.
