Phrasal verbs, also called two-word verbs, are idiomatic expressions wherein the second element of the verb (the adverb or particle) is not necessarily predictable.


Phrasal Verb:
spoon something up

Meaning:
to serve something that requires finding and bringing up out of a pot with a spoon.

Example:
The cook spooned the hard-cooked eggs up one by one.
