A verb combined with an adverb or a preposition, or sometimes both, to give a new meaning.

Meaning / Example:

1. to send someone out of somewhere.
> I'm glad it's not winter. I'd hate to turn out someone in the snow.

2. to train or produce someone with certain skills or talents.
> A committee accused the state university of turning out too many veterinarians.
