Phrasal Verb
A group of words which have a different meaning when used together from the one they would have if you took the meaning of each word separately.

1. to brace something; to provide architectural support for something.
> We have to buttress up this part of the wall while we work on it.
2. to provide extra support, often financial support, for something.
> We rounded up some money to buttress the company up through the sales slump.
Phrasal verbs are compound verbs that result from combining a verb with an adverb or a preposition. The resulting compound verb is idiomatic.
