Phrasal verbs, also called two-word verbs, are idiomatic expressions wherein the second element of the verb (the adverb or particle) is not necessarily predictable.


Phrasal Verb:
drown someone or an animal out [for a flood]

Meaning:
to drive someone or an animal away from home.

Example:
The high waters almost drowned the farmers out last year.
