Phrasal Verb


Phrasal verbs are two or more words that come together to give us a new verb with a different meaning from the original words.


Phrasal Verb:
melt down

Meaning / Example:

1. [for something frozen] to melt.
> The glacier melted down little by little.
> When the ice on the streets melted down, it was safe to drive again.

2. [for a nuclear reactor] to become hot enough to melt through its container.

Phrasal verbs are multi-word verbs that, like single-word verbs, convey action of the body or mind or occurrences. Phrasal verbs consist of a basic verb + another word or words, usually a preposition or adverb. Example: speak (basic verb) + up (preposition)
